This picture draws to mind some of the "Witches" from the anime Puella Magi Madoka Magica in some ways. It has the same surreal, "bits and pieces reality", like the universe and the things in were made from construction paper and colored with a giant crayon, but the fact this girl has a human face makes it distinct in its own way. Rgeardless of if her wings are made of many things or if reality itself was glued together by a very artistic and insane deity, the girl at the center is a person. Then one looks a bit closer, and finds that her face, initially hinting at a smile, is actually expressionless. The quirk of her lips is a neutral line rather than either upward or downwards. Her humanity is superficial. She's more doll than person. And then I start to worry just what might be inside, if not a person. What might emerge from the doll if the head is removed? Nothing? Blood? A shadowy horror with eyes and teeth, ready to claim the one who dared to expose the truth? Would anyone even have the nerve, under the gaze of those blank eyes to even move close enough to touch her? What if she actually is a person, but her appearance drives away those who are apalled by imitations of humanity? What if there's a thinking, sapient being dwelling behind that vacant expression, and she just doesn't know how to tell anyone? Ultimately, this piece inspires both the immediate reaction of being drawn to the colors, and the deeper I look, the more emotional impressions there are, and the more questions arise.
